The Crunch Club were ready for a challenge. Our little meeting spot is a little...well...brown. We have fantastic views down the river to the south side of Brissie and out to the islands of Moreton Bay, but the interior of our workspace, is a little lacking.
The challenge: to spruce up the Falcon's nest, make a cushion cover which reflects the theme of Queensland.
A cushion appreciation morning tea was called, complete with Shingle Inn cake and caramelised pear tea cake. The Crunchers gathered for their 'big reveal'.
Chloe hand painted the silk fabric and free hand embroidered the falcon on her sensational cushion. Hand drawn Queensland icons are included on the back of the cushion. So talented.
Danielle represented Queensland and the key industries of the State. Note the embroidered deadly jellyfish of our North Queensland waters.
Jenepher knitted her cushion cover in an abstract pattern using her scrap yarns. How beautiful these colours are, and they match the existing decor perfectly! Jen was so clever to knit the words 'Falcon's Nest' into the backing of the cushion cover. I am told that this is so easy - I don't think so.
I was a little more predictable with my cushion cover. I chopped in to a vintage Toowoomba tea towel, which said Toowoomba - Famous for the Carnival of Flowers. So, I made lots of little yoyos to represent the flowers. Thank you to Bec who gave me the tea towel, instead of making it into one of her magnificent creations.
Esther embraced this challenge in a different way. She represented her team's work plan diagramatically on a spreadsheet and then replicated it as a cushion cover. Please note that Esther even has marked when team members will be on annual leave, seconded to other positions, and even when her baby is due.
Al in typical fashion decided to recycle. While in Mackay he picked up an authentic safety shirt from an op shop. Oh, a miner's shirt, how appropriate - I said. No, infact it is not a miner's shirt but an original Queensland Rail safety shirt!
What a clever way to refashion a shirt. Even if it is fluro orange.
